THE FUTURE IS ELECTRIC, DIGITAL AND CIRCULAR.
At BMW we recognise the environmental footprint of our vehicles which is why reducing their impact is embedded into our Corporate Strategy. This includes defining targets that will enable us to contribute to the goals set out by the Paris Climate Agreement and the accompanying 1.5-degree objective.
By 2030 the BMW Group has laid out measurable, science-based targets to reduce CO2 emissions (base year 2019). These include; an average of 80% carbon reduction at our owned production sites and locations (scope 1 and 2 emissions including sites not allocated to production) per vehicle produced, C02 emissions during the vehicle’s use phase by an average of at least 50% per km driven (largely through the increase of electrified vehicles within our range), and an average of at least 20% carbon reduction in the supply chain per vehicle produced.
Our comprehensive approach to sustainability doesn’t stop there, as well as having a clear focus on the circular economy, we view sustainability to encompass three pillars – ecological, social and governance.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS AND AMBITIONS SO FAR.
OUR COMPREHENSIVE THREE-PILLAR APPROACH.
Ecological.
We’ve committed to achieving the targets outlined in the Paris Climate Agreement, which involves reducing CO2 emissions across our entire value-added chain while adhering to ecological guidelines. To fulfil this commitment, we prioritise environmental protection, efficient resource management, and the development of the circular economy. These elements form the vital core of our strategy for sustainable development.
Social.
We strive to be an enterprise and employer with a strong sense of social responsibility for our employees and society. That’s why we place great importance on health, diversity and development opportunities for our workforce. Recognising our role as a global player, we are equally aware of our responsibility to contribute positively to society.
Governance.
We recognise our governance importance and structure our corporate governance around achieving sustainable governance growth. Compliance with guidelines is of outmost importance, as they form the foundation for long-term success and are deeply embedded in our corporate culture. Through this approach, we aim to avoid financial damage and uphold trust from the outset. We always consider the future implications and the impact on our company when addressing potential risks.

FAQ.
How is sustainability enshrined within the BMW Group?
The specific targets of the BMW Group are directed towards reducing CO2 emissions, increasing the efficiency of resources and further improving social and environmental standards. For this reason, clear targets were defined back in July 2020, which are to be implemented by 2030. The spectrum ranges from topics such as CO2 reduction and electromobility via the circular economy, environmental and social standards through to social responsibility.
Our actions are directed towards fulfilling the aspiration of being the most successful and sustainable premium manufacturer for individual mobility. In order to achieve this target, we are a greater number of and increasingly more extensive sustainability solutions.
