HOW TO FIND AND DOWNLOAD A MAP UPDATE FOR YOUR NAVIGATION ON YOUR COMPUTER.
Map updates are published multiple times per year. They are available as a one- or two-year subscription in the BMW Shop. If you have an active subcription, to update your map data, you can download the latest update from the BMW Connected Drive portal, using the BMW Update Manager. To do this, you will need to use the following steps and will require a 64GB FAT-32 formatted USB drive.
- Firstly, log-in to your My BMW Account using the icon in the site header. Navigate to ‘My Vehicles’.
- Select the vehicle for which you want to download a map update.
- Navigate to ‘Map update’ section. A message will display if a new map version is available.
- Click ‘To manual map update’ link and download the BMW Update Manager.
- Login to the BMW Update Manager with your My BMW credentials and select the vehicle that you would like to update the map for. After copying the map data to a 64GB FAT-32 formatted USB drive, you can proceed to load it into the vehicle following the instructions in the appropriate video below.
HOW TO TRANSFER AND INSTALL THE MAP UPDATE TO YOUR VEHICLE USING A USB DRIVE.
After you have downloaded the map update or bought the USB drive with the update from the dealer, you are ready to go into the vehicle. Insert the USB drive with the latest map data in the USB interface port of your vehicle. The Control Display automatically changes to the navigation update mode. Select “OK” to start the update. The complete update procedure may take between 30 and 90 minutes. You do not need to wait until the update is done. You can still use your vehicle and navigation system during the update process. If you would like to return to the update process, go to your map and press OPTION on the iDrive controller. Then select ‘Navigation data update’. Please leave the USB drive inserted until the end of the update process. After the successful installation of the update, the navigation system will automatically reboot. This completes the update procedure. To check the currently installed map version, please go to ‘Navigation’, select ‘Settings’, ‘Position and version’ and select ‘Version information’.
HOW TO TRANSFER AND INSTALL THE MAP UPDATE TO YOUR BMW WITH OPERATING SYSTEM 7.0.
After you have downloaded the map update or bought the USB drive with the update from the retailer you are ready to start the update in your vehicle. Insert the USB drive with the latest map data in the USB interface port of your vehicle. The Control Display automatically changes to the navigation update mode. Select ‘Update now’ to start the update. The update may take between 30 and 90 minutes to complete. You can still use your vehicle and navigation system during the update process. If you would like to return to the update screen, go to your map and press ‘Settings’ and ‘Update’. Please leave the USB drive inserted until the update is complete. After the successful installation of the update, the navigation system will automatically reboot. This completes the update. To check the currently installed map version, please go to ‘Navigation’, select ‘Settings’ and ‘Update’.
